Basking in the Bay

Basking sharks appear to be popping up everywhere in the Bay of Fundy this year.

On July 1, Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises snapped a great photograph of this basking shark with a very distinct dorsal fin.

Since the end of June, Laurie Murison has spotted 5 basking sharks! Two of these were breaching, one was at the surface briefly and two stuck around long enough for her to photograph. One of these individuals also has quite a distinct dorsal fin.

Finally, on July 23, Stephen Robinson of Top of the Island Boat Tours, spotted a basking shark just off the Bishop, at the north end of Grand Manan Island. This makes the total number of basking sharks sighted in the Bay of Fundy so far 7!
